On April 6, 2015 Jason and Shannon had a rare night out while Ruby spent time with Gram'pa and Gammy. They picked up Ruby around 10:30 and ran to the store. At 11:20, 1.5 miles from home, they were hit by a drunk driver and killed.

A Ruby Promise is a promise to help end DUI. You can do this not only by not driving drunk/drugged or distracted, but by preventing others from doing so as well. If you know someone that is about to drive after drinking, offer to call them a cab. If you are sober, offer to drive them yourself. If necessary, take their car keys from them. If that isn’t possible, call 911. Advise the police they are drunk and driving. Give them a description of the car, tag number if possible. Give them the location and direction they are driving. Trust me, every police officer would prefer to stop a drunk driver rather than picking up a dying 22 month old from the side of the street. If you know someone that needs this information, direct them to this website. Tell them the story of Jason Shannon and Ruby. Why is this important? Your family is why. Simply not drinking isn’t enough, we have to make sure no one else drives drunk as well.
