Our Preciou Gem Ruby Michele Fields
May 14, 2013 at 2:38 PM is the moment Ruby stole my heart. By 2:40 it was obvious she was going to rule my world. Jason and Shannon allowed me to be in the room when Ruby was born. I admit to being concerned by what I would see, but all I saw was this beautiful baby entering the world and my wonderful kids welcoming their daughter. I quickly took on the role of picture queen. I wanted to document every movement this little girls life. While Shannon was pregnant she claimed that Ruby would start kicking as soon as she heard my voice. She was constantly asking me to talk to her tummy. I thought she was just being Shannon, but to pacify her I would place my face near her belly and say, Gammy loves you Ruby. Shannon swore she would stop kicking. On the day Ruby was born I whispered, Gammy loves you Ruby. She smiled. As soon as Ruby was able to pull up the battle was on. If I told her no, she would fight me. At 7 months old she would put her hands on her hips and shake her little tiny finger at me. The entire time she would be almost yelling at me in her baby talk. The first time it happened I was shocked. Never had I seen a baby act like this. I then realized Clif, Jason and Shannon were all laughing hysterically at this sight. I kept asking what was so funny, Shannon finally spoke. “She has your attitude Mom, you have finally met your match!” No truer words were ever spoken. Ruby was brilliant. At 1, if she got my phone she would change things on it. She would open programs I didn’t know were on it. Gram’pa had built her a computer when she was only 2 weeks old. She could work that thing better than some adults. By the time she turned one she could start, stop, pause, back up and go forward on any of her videos. Ruby was just a huge personality. Even though she had not started talking, she knew how to get her way. When I would get on to her for doing something, she would climb on my lap and give me kisses to say I am sorry. When she was ready to go for a walk, she would get her stroller out. When she was hungry, she went to the kitchen. She would just stand there and jabber for me. She knew she wasn’t allowed to touch anything in that room and didn't. I didn’t know something was missing until Ruby came along. Without her, my world is dark and lonely with one regret. I never heard her say I love you Gammy.
